dropFRAME is an A/V label, and a group of video artists, performers, and producers who are expanding the scope of the emerging scene of video-music
through dvd releases, video shows, instalations, tours and eventually, workshops.
We are dedicated to being at the forefront of the plundered world of audio video production.
Our intention is to bridge the gaps between the sofa, the club and the art gallery.
What is Video Music?
As opposed to music videos, (where imagery is edited to pre-existing music, usually with the intention to market a recording),
the visual and audio elements in Video Music are equally important.
A video clip (including it's sound) is concidered a single music element, such as a single note, or the hit of a drum would be in non-visual music.
The visually rythmic nature of Video Music is often discribed as Hypnotic, and creates a sort of artificial synesthesia.
Video music has roots dating back to 1911, when the Futurist movement gave birth to "Visual Music" or "Color Music".
The most notable innovations took place in the late 1930's, when Norman McLaren began scratching directly onto the optical soundtrack area of his films.

Although there are many historical examples of the co-relation of film and audio recording,
the pionering of Video Music in it's current format didn't occur untill the late 1990's.
The most prominant advancements in the A/V genre were made by Coldcut and Hexstatic,
with thier "Natural Rythmn" trilogy:
"Frog Jam", "Natural Rythmn", and "Timber".

Shortly after, a Toronto based group called the "Jawa video arts collective" (now disbanded) formed,
and Coined the term "Jawa" video.
At this point, (Feb. 2010) Video Music has been labelled in various ways, including:
- Video Music
- Jawa
- A/V or AVcore
- Video Concrete
